Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s
announcement that the G7 Summit will take place in Carbis Bay on June 11 to 13.
The
G7 – which is made up of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the USA
– is the only forum where, according to the UK government, “the world’s most
influential and open societies and advanced economies are brought together for
close-knit discussions”.
The resistance coalition is calling for local, national and
international protests in response to the summit. It is also planning a counter
conference, aiming to create a “legacy of resistance and alternatives for
Cornwall and beyond”.
A
mass day of action is being called for June 12, although what exactly this
looks like in terms of actions in Cornwall will be Covid-dependent and
announced nearer the time.
The
launch statement reads: “We believe in a world where we put people and planet
before profit, where justice means justice on a global scale, where wealth is
shared equally and not pocketed by the 1%.
